About Us
Look, we started this thing because we got tired of book reviews that sounded like they were written by robots on their worst day. You know the type — stuffed with jargon nobody uses in real conversation, burying the actual opinion under three layers of unnecessarily complicated prose. We're just people who read books, think about them (sometimes for way too long), and then write down what we actually think. No pretension. No algorithm-optimized fluff. Just honest takes on stories that matter, characters that stick with you, and occasionally books that absolutely miss the mark. We're based in Brno and we've been doing this since someone said, 'Why don't we just talk about books like normal humans?'
Over time, we’ve built a reputation for reliability, quality, and clear communication. We treat each project as a partnership and aim for outcomes that last.
Our Core Values
The principles that guide everything we do
Honesty Above All
We're not getting paid to like books. If something doesn't work, we'll tell you. If it's brilliant, we'll say that too. No sugar-coating, no games.
Actual Human Voices
You're reading words from actual people, not some content machine. We write like we talk. Messy sometimes, but real.
Reading Should Be Fun
Literature doesn't have to be a slog. We talk about books you genuinely want to read, and we do it in a way that won't bore you senseless.
No Sacred Cows
Classics are great. Classics can also be slow and weird and not work for everyone. We judge all books the same way — does it work or doesn't it?
Meet Our Team
The people behind The Simple Blog
We’re a team that values ownership, clarity, and growth. We celebrate wins, learn fast, and keep client outcomes at the center.
Petra Novotná
Founder & Chief Book Wrangler
Started this because she couldn't find a single book review that didn't make her want to scream. Reads about 47 books a year and has very strong opinions about most of them. Coffee enthusiast.
Tomáš Dvořák
Reviews & Editorial
Former journalist who realized he preferred talking about fiction to chasing news cycles. Specializes in science fiction and has read every Asimov book twice. Probably. Definitely opinionated.
Klara Svobodova
Literary Analysis & Essays
Philosophy background but won't tell you that unless it comes up. Writes about themes, characters, and why certain books haunt you. Also runs our newsletter. Mysteriously organized.
Our Approach
Our approach combines proven methods with modern tools. We start with discovery, align on goals, plan clearly, and execute with quality checks at every step.
Our Story
The Simple Blog started kind of accidentally. A few of us kept having the same conversation at coffee shops — 'Why is every book review either painfully bland or written for academics only?' By 2019, we'd decided to do something about it. Started with a WordPress site and way too much confidence. Turns out people actually wanted this. Book nerds, casual readers, people who pick up three books a year — they all showed up. We've been based in Brno, writing reviews and occasionally getting into weird debates about whether literary fiction is actually better, ever since.

Our Mission
We write book reviews that feel like talking to a friend who's actually read the thing. Our job is cutting through the noise and telling you whether a book's worth your time. We believe readers deserve honest opinions, not marketing speak. So that's what we give you — straight takes, no spinning, just what we think actually matters about books.
Our Vision
A world where book reviews don't put you to sleep. We're building a place where literary discussion stays real and accessible. No gatekeeping, no pretending books are more complicated than they're, and definitely no treating readers like they need everything dumbed down. Just good writing about good (and sometimes terrible) books.
